Lauren Makes Her Mark
The question I'm asked most is whether I ever get nervous when I interview celebrities. Other than the occasional heart palpitation around someone like George Clooney--to whom any woman with a pulse would fall prey--I'm not prone to bouts of the jitters. So after meeting everyone from Angelina to Madonna, who is the one person that reduced me to a babbling fan? Lauren Conrad, star of MTV's The Hills.
Bronwyn spends time with The Hills' Lauren Conrad.
I got a chance to meet LC when she made a quick trip to NYC to introduce beauty and fashion editors to her new line of accessories for Avon's Mark brand. And the best part? The line is being introduced in conjunction with the launch of Mark's Girls m.powerment campaign, which will raise awareness about dating abuse and domestic violence among teens and young women. Lauren showed us each piece from the jewelry line, including the "Have a Heart" necklace, the sales of which will fund grants for organizations committed to ending violence among young women. And she also pointed out her favorite things from the upcoming line. "The bracelets are easy to wear and they're not going anywhere," she told us about the bangles. Her other fave? The studded rings in gold and silver. "I stack mine," she said. Lauren's line for Mark won't be available until the fall, but I got to take home the entire collection. Since then I've been hearing "Where did you get that?!" every time I wear the pieces around the office.

When I got some one-on-one time with Lauren, I couldn't resist asking her all of my burning questions about her life on The Hills. Since our conversation was "off the record," I can't share any of my insider information with you, but I can tell you that Lauren is a down to Earth California girl who is taking her newfound fame in stride. "I don't have a stylist," she said when I asked her how she chooses what to wear both on camera and off. "For me, that's the fun part." After gushing to her about her popularity with InStyle.com's readers and how big a fan I am of the show, I asked Lauren about her craziest fan experiences. "People offer me advice about relationships," she said. "I'm like, that was filmed 6 months ago!"--Bronwyn Barnes
