From In Style's Kwala Mandel in Los Angeles: The Environmental Media Awards, which recognize the eco-friendly contributions of films like An Inconvenient Truth, is a great charity event for a great cause. But I have to admit, one of the best parts of attending the other night was catching the presenters cutting loose when the stage lights dimmed at the Ebell Club theater in order to show the nominee clips.

Kwala and Kristin Davis

David Spade stopped razzing his co-presenter, Kristin Davis, long enough to pull out the contents of his pockets and throw them at a friend in the audience (followed by a little dance and the flash of a peace sign before the lights came back up). Flea, of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, pretended to rush the stage from his front-row seat, and Wilmer Valderrama took advantage of the darkness to plant two kisses on the cheek of his co-presenter, Bahar Soomekh, before running across the stage to plant another one on E! News anchor Giuliana DePandi. Blame it on those organic cocktails.

Davis, who looked stunning in Naeem Khan, didn’t pull any stunts, but that might be because she has her hands full with her latest project. And no, this one doesn’t involve co-stars; she’s actually building a “green” guesthouse. She admits that she’s looking forward to it so much that she might just pack her bags and move into the new quarters, thereby becoming her own houseguest. “I have a feeling that is exactly what is going to happen, which would be cool,” she said with a laugh. “Rather than a big house where you get lost, it is nice to have two cozy houses!”

Other stars in attendance included Nicole Richie (who joked that she was doing her part by recycling her vintage gown), Daryl Hannah, Maroon 5, Julie Bowen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Anthony Kiedis. And there was a great dinner, with organic selections from restaurants across the city.

Even the gift bags were stocked with items like environmentally friendly Shaklee cleaning products. So if it takes a while for Davis to complete that green addition, at least she’ll be able to keep it eco-clean once it’s done!
