What did you decide to wear for Halloween?

I have a feeling that I'll be seeing a lot of Fergie wanna-bes strutting along the streets of the West Village tonight—and who can blame them? Have you seen her hot new video for "Fergalicious"? Think: Willy Wonka goes hip-hop.

"It's like a movie: Fergieland!" says the singer and breakout star from the Black Eyed Peas. But it's a lot more entertaining than that Johnny Depp remake!

From In Style's Ali Forman in Los Angeles: I’m the kind of person who freaks out whenever anyone wants to read my palm or—God forbid—send me to a psychic. So it’s kind if amazing that I made it to the supernatural soirée held to celebrate the season premiere of Medium.

Patricia Arquette and Molly Madden
Hosted by NBC; the show’s star, Patricia Arquette; and Arquette's tireless manager, Molly Madden, the party was held at the Stephen Cohen Gallery, which was (very fittingly) featuring a photo exhibition titled “Immaterial World.” (Thankfully, there were lots of living people in the gallery, so I didn’t get too spooked.)

Sometimes I think: Why do I live in New York when Hollywood is in L.A.? But then I go to a party like the birthday bash for 65-year-old artist Robert Wilson—which was held not at some happening hot spot in the Meatpacking District but rather at the Guggenheim uptown—and I change my mind. (The way this week is shaping up, MuseumHopper might be a more appropriate name for the blog.) Another cause for celebration? The new movie Absolute Wilson, which chronicles the enigmatic artist's life.
Robert Wilson, Winona Ryder and Donna Karan

Granted, it wasn't the most star-packed event (that would have been the Marchesa bash at Bergdorf's, which drew the likes of Sienna Miller, Anne Hathaway and uber-stylist Rachel Zoe). But it was all about the mix—the kind of eclectic crowd that you see only in N.Y.C., thanks largely to veteran party planner Peggy Siegel: Imagine Winona Ryder mingling with the likes of fashion designers Donna Karan and Carlos Miele, supercool singer Rufus Wainwright and artist Andres Serrano. I never get starstruck around celebs, but put me at a table with a world-famous artist, and I'm uncharacteristically...uh...speechless.
Rufus Wainwright and Winona Ryder
Before everyone sang "Happy Birthday" to Wilson, legendary composer, frequent Wilson collaborator and all-around artsy intellectual Philip Glass cracked this joke in reference to the movie: "I can't believe we were ever that young and skinny!" Naturally, this one got a big laugh out of the Hollywood types.

From In Style's Glynis Costin, Ali Forman and Marsha McGregor in Los Angeles: Tuesday night was one of those evenings when our West Coast staff fanned out across the city to attend a variety of fêtes.
First there was the Dior Cruise 2007 runway show at Dior's Beverly Hills store, hosted by Amber Valletta, stylist Elizabeth Stewart and gal about town Jamie Tisch, among others. Guests such as Angie Harmon, Shiva Rose (Dylan McDermott’s super-fashionable wife) and Camilla Belle sipped champagne and oohed and aahed at all the sexy metallic dresses, chic glittery skirts and one particular coral pleated gown that floated down the catwalk.
After the show, Angie, Amber and Shiva stood in a group and chatted about motherhood as several well-coifed ladies made their way upstairs for the trunk-show sale. Amber and Angie (whom Glynis first met in Milan when they were modeling and she was an editor stationed there) were apparently inspired by the show to relive their past. They kept cracking each other up by reenacting their old runway poses. “You put your mouth like this," Angie said, and then demonstrated by sticking out her lower lip, striking a pose and making us all laugh.
Oh, those former models! And by the way, those two still look pretty much the way they did 12 years ago. Sigh.

Then Glynis and fellow staffer Angela Salazar headed to Sonya Dakar’s Beverly Hills Spa, where Jaime Pressly (low-key in a ponytail and jeans) was hosting a party to help introduce a new Dakar skin-care line called UltraLuxe. As a DJ spun tunes and bartenders served up vodka drinks, guests wandered around the multilevel spa trying to figure out what to do. One woman in a pink dress sported a matching pink fur bag and even a pink-dyed dog. “This is kind of random,” one partygoer was overheard remarking as she scanned the room.

Despite the fact that the event was a distinctly denim-free affair, the Whitney looked more like a hot Hollywood club than a museum Monday night, what with all the gorgeous actresses dancing to Justin Timberlake remixes, knocking back cocktails and puffing away. (Cough, cough. Wonder if all that secondhand smoke is good for the masterpieces. ... )

André Balazs and Uma Thurman

The pricey paintings on display for the Whitney's exhibit about Picasso's influence on American art were inevitably upstaged by those wearing the fab frocks on view, and it seemed that guests like Jimmy Fallon and Moby would agree with me—notably, Uma Thurman (with beau André Balazs on her arm), Michelle Williams (with her designer pal Behnaz Sarafpour—a good friend to have!), Piper Perabo (from The Prestige and, yes, Coyote Ugly) and Emmy Rossum, who was working a gold flapper-ish number. Really working it: "We love Emmy," said my photographer friend Josie. "She'll pose for, like, hours!"

From In Style's Ali Forman in Los Angeles: I know most people think awards season in Hollywood begins in January, but it actually gets off to an early start with the Hollywood Film Festival's annual Hollywood Awards. Held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel (which is also the venue for the Golden Globes), it’s become quite a star-filled extravaganza.
I couldn’t believe how many actors came out to support their films on Monday night in hopes of generating some of that much sought-after Oscar buzz.

When I arrived, the cameras were already flashing like crazy as Robin Williams and Joy Bryant (who is in the upcoming film Bobby) were walking the red carpet. Joy looked amazing (as always) in a white Ralph Lauren dress. She told me that she needed to make sure she posed very carefully, though, because ruched fabric can be tricky to photograph. She needn't have worried: That girl could make a potato sack look great.

Don't you hate it when you discover a hot new look—and suddenly it's everywhere? I did a double take while watching America's Next Top Model when I saw professional snake handler Nigel Marven, whom I first met (along with his python friend) at a Snakes on a Plane party.
Photo of Brooke by Matthew Jordan Smith/The CW
Photo of James by Jay Eaton
For a Tyra Banks-supervised photo shoot, Nigel was helping to accessorize Brooke, an 18-year-old student from Texas, with what looked like the exact same snake that once graced my shoulders. I have to say, Brooke works this look much better than I do: Check out her sexy pout, her sultry hair, her rockin' bod. Me, I'm just doing my best to hide my terror. If Tyra had these two photos in her hand, well, I know which one she'd choose!

From In Style's Karen Levy in Los Angeles: Given all the buzz surrounding the singer’s fashion show and concert during L.A. Fashion Week, you could easily be forgiven for thinking it was actually Justin Timberlake Week.
Like Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lopez, Sean Combs, Jessica Simpson, Beyoncé and countless other musicians before him, Timberlake has entered the cool yet fickle world of fashion. Along with his pal Trace Ayala, Timberlake created William Rast, a sporty line (primarily in denim) for both men and women. Named after the two friends' grandfathers, the collection is almost a year old. However, the recent show was the line's first—and its big L.A. splash.

Earlier, Timberlake had told our fellow In Style reporter Kwala Mandel that, so far, the line has kept a fairly low profile. “I meet people on the street who come up to me and say, ‘I’m loving your song "SexyBack," and I’ll say, ‘Really? You’re wearing my jeans.’ And they’ll say, ‘What?’ They have no idea.”

I've got one word for you: "Oops!" (as Britney would say).
OK, so much to my surprise, Jeffrey, not Michael, is America's Next Top Designer according to the Project Runway judges. (I've learned that blogs are similar to reality TV—both media outlets afford you the opportunity to look like a fool in front of an audience of millions.)

Is anybody having a Project Runway party tonight? Here's a better question: If you could invite any of the finalists to the party, whom would pick? My choice would be Michael. Remember when some crazy French lady in Paris threw eggs at his couture gown? His calm response was: "Where's the champagne?"
I think it's going to come down to Michael and Jeffrey—the former epitomizes hip-hop style; the latter, rock-and-roll edge. I love rap as much as rock, but ultimately I have to go with Michael, because his "street safari" collection seems more, you know, modern—as the fashion critics like to say.
Hey, speaking of hip-hop and rock, last night Marie Antoinette co-stars Kirsten Dunst and Jason Schwartzman (a tad overdressed in a brown three-piece suit—this was downtown N.Y.C., after all, not Versailles), workout buddies Jake Gyllenhaal and Lance Armstrong (what, no Matthew McConaughey?), and other music-loving stars converged on Capitale for a concert featuring dapper rapper Kanye West (sporting a gray suit with white kicks—on anyone else, it would evoke Pee-Wee Herman), Pharrell and the Strokes, as well as electronica aficionados Goldfrapp and DJ Carl Cox.
Hennessy sponsored the blowout, so the cognac was flowing freely. It was a celebration of "the global art of mixing"—strong performances and even stronger cocktails. (Let's change the name of this blog to PartyHangover...).
My favorite sighting of the night was booted Project Runway designer Malan—his vampire-chic look totally worked among all the creatures of the night in this crowd. But you know how it goes in the fashion industry: As Heidi says, "One day you're in, the next day you're out."

Are you dying to see Clint Eastwood's Flags of Our Fathers? It seems like it's got everything going for it: a fascinating story, a cast of cute boys, Oscar buzz ... what more could you want?
I often think the tagline for the PartyHopper blog should be: "We go out—so you don't have to!" Last night, I passed the PartyHopper torch to the charismatic and super-stylish Suzanne Zuckerman, who covered a star-packed Flags of Our Fathers screening and after-party sponsored by the Cinema Society so that I could stay chained to my home computer and crank out a cover story.

But because I love to procrastinate, I was thrilled when Suzanne called me with a full report at around midnight. "It's so beautiful and warm out—I decided to walk home," Suzanne said, and I envied her exposure to fresh air.
So how was the movie? "Intense," she said. "And gory. The history is so moving, but the movie was a little depressing." OK, enough about that. How was the party?

From In Style's Glynis Costin in Los Angeles: As my fellow In Style editor Cortney Pellettieri and I descended the stairs at the Beverly Hills Hotel to attend the Children's Defense Fund’s annual Beat the Odds benefit, I wondered why several people were looking our way.
Had I ripped my skirt? Was my bra showing? Did Cortney have something on her shoe or a lipstick stain on her face from someone’s kiss?
Jennifer Garner and Reese Witherspoon

But then I noticed the reason for all the stares: A tall and dashing Ben Affleck and his lovely bride, Jennifer Garner (looking chic and adorable at the same time in a black Chanel dress and Christian Louboutin shoes), were at our heels. Garner’s manager, Nicole King (who looks like a star herself), and I commented on how loud the buzz of the crowd was as we entered the room, and we joked with Garner about needing earplugs.

What’s your favorite Rod Stewart song?
While I live for discovering hot new indie rock acts from the U.K., it's always fun to see an established showman like Rod, who knows a thing or two about stage presence. I’ve gone to check out so many young bands that put out awesome CDs but don't deliver in concert. The lead singer just stands there—maybe it’s stage fright, but more likely it’s too much tequila. Or both.
Photos by Mark A. Neston
Rod really knows how to work a crowd. The two old rock chicks sitting next to me at the Nokia Theatre (imagine an American version of Ab Fab's Patsy and Eddie) were on their feet yelling “Maggie May!” nearly the entire time. Rod made them happier than a pitcher full of margaritas when he finally belted out that classic at the end of his set, but mostly he sang material from his new album of covers, like his pal Jon Waite’s “Missing You” and the Pretenders’ “I’ll Stand By You.” Rock 'n' roll doesn’t have much of an impact on the Billboard charts these days, but I have a feeling that Still the Same...Great Rock Classics of our Time is going to make a serious dent.

What was worth missing the next-to-last episode of Project Runway for? In Style's cocktail party for the Entertainment Industry Foundation’s Women's Cancer Research Fund, which was co-sponsored by Mercedes-Benz and hosted by Saks Chairman Steve Sadove and my boss, Charla Lawhon.
The bash served as the kickoff for Saks's annual Key to the Cure charity shopping event, and some of our favorite stars (including Sarah Wynter, Olivia Wilde and Alana De La Garza) braved a chilly downpour in order to support the cause. Despite the rain, the vibe inside Rockefeller Center's Channel Gardens felt like a summer soirée, thanks to designer David Stark's floral arrangements and hot-pink lighting—it made everyone look sun-kissed.

I love asking chic actresses to provide style commentary, and they seem to get a kick out of playing the part of a fashion critic. The must-have look of the night was a T-shirt that Oscar de la Renta had designed; it's white with a pink bow inscribed with the words "a key to the cure" (net proceeds from sales go to the EIF's Women's Cancer Research Fund).

From In Style's Kwala Mandel in Los Angeles: The calendar may say it’s fall, but Samaire Armstrong was still in vacation mode at the Design a Cure garden party the other night. (It didn't hurt that the gardenia-scented candles made it smell like August, even if there was a chill in the air.)
“It is summertime,” insisted Armstrong, who told me she’s living it up by taking jazz and tumbling classes (she’s already mastered a round-off back handspring). “I’m in the class with one other girl—she’s nine,” said the actress, who’ll have to pack up her leotard soon to work on an episode of CSI: Miami.
Kwala and Ginnifer Goodwin
Meanwhile, Ginnifer Goodwin—who had come straight from the Big Love set—was settling into the change of seasons (and the amazing Brentwood estate where the owners of Fred Segal Fun were hosting the event) in her Moschino dress paired with a Wyeth coat. “I wouldn’t mind living here,” she said, looking around at the outdoor fireplace and a lawn lined with white couches. Around the orchid-topped tables sat guests such as Mandy Moore, Sarah Chalke, Elizabeth Rohm, Stacy Keibler and Tracee Ellis Ross.

My pal Matt Heien just e-mailed me about a late-night bash he put together at the mega-club Mansion in Miami. It was the perfect setting for celebrating the new video game Scarface: the World Is Yours. From In Style's Angela Salazar in Los Angeles: The opening of the L.A. outpost of chic boutique Some Odd Rubies the other night was a veritable six degrees of Hollywood. Owners Summer Phoenix, Odessa Whitmire and Ruby Canner (Summer, Odessa, Ruby—Some Odd Rubies, get it?) have close connections to some of Tinseltown’s most famous names. They also have impeccable taste and style.
One easily identifiable chain at the party linked Phoenix, Casey Affleck, Ben Affleck, Whitmire and director Kevin Smith: Summer is married to Casey, brother of Ben, whose former assistant is Odessa and who worked with Smith on Mallrats, Chasing Amy and Dogma, to name just a few. (OK, so maybe that’s not quite six degrees—but who’s counting?)
Angela and Jenna Elfman
Other famous faces in attendance included the gorgeous Eva Mendes, Jenna Elfman (in Stella McCartney for H&M), Patricia Arquette, Giovanni Ribisi, Clea DuVall (who is Phoenix’s best friend), Rashida Jones, Scott Caan, Marisol Nichols (of ABC’s In Justice), Charlie Hunnam and Jon Abrahams (the hot new DJ on The Ellen DeGeneres Show).

Have you seen the trailer for Casino Royale yet? I'm curious to hear what you think of the new James Bond, Daniel Craig: Do you want to shake his martini or shoot him?
And while we're on the subject, do you ever wonder how a Bond villain spends his downtime? Taking his two kids out for a day of family fun at Universal Studios in L.A., of course. "They're busy with SpongeBob at the moment," says Danish superstar Mads Mikkelsen (think: the Tom Cruise of Copenhagen), who is set to win millions of American fans thanks to his role opposite 007 in Casino Royale.

I think it's crazy that Craig's casting has been controversial in part because of his hair color (blondes can kick butt as well as have fun—remember Farrah in Charlie's Angels?). But I'll bet everyone gets a kick out of the new Metrosexual Bond Baddie, Le Chiffre. Next to the Bond girls, the villains are my favorite part of the spy franchise, though they've never been so stylish, sexy and well groomed.

From In Style's Glynis Costin in Los Angeles: I’ve been to many of the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style awards ceremonies, and they’ve all been great in their own way—from Giorgio Armani’s chic styles and glam crowd to Tom Ford’s hipster looks and cool after-party on the rooftop deck of the Gucci shop. But this year's event, which honored the late Salvatore Ferragamo, really rocked the house—er, street—when Kanye West kicked off a rowdy set with “Diamonds Are Forever.”
Kanye West
Molly Sims, Michelle Trachtenberg, Ginnifer Goodwin (all in sparking Ferragamo dresses) and Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon (in gold Ferragamo shoes) were among those gyrating their hips and moving their arms to West’s rhythms, as some of the well-coifed Beverly Hills locals nodded along.
Sizing up his audience, Kanye remarked that some were probably surprised they could understand the lyrics to a rap song. But many guests were actually singing along. A blond girl standing next to me in a leopard-print top, for example, shouted along with the rapper as he belted out “Gold Digger”: “If you ain’t no punk, holla, ‘We want prenup! We want prenup, yeah!' It's something that you need to have.”

I remember when I first met Tina, years ago in L.A. I was at AGO restaurant for a Grammys after-party, and she whisked by me with her Versace-clad daugther and the rest of Destiny's Child. I introduced myself with a compliment about how gorgeous the gals looked in their matching outfits: "Oh, thank you!" she said of the clothes, which were, in fact, a design collaboration. "I just called up Donatella and told her, 'I'm thinking Old Hollywood glamour.'" How cool to have Donatella on speed-dial, I thought. Now Tina has a new collaborator—Beyoncé—and they have their own glam line (two, actually, as their new juniors line, Deréon, will arrive in stores in time for the holidays).

From In Style's Karen Levy and Ali Forman in Los Angeles: It’s kind of cool to be looking at a photo of a famous person and then to see that person appear in real life! And that’s just what happened to us the other night at Entertainment Weekly’s party for its annual photo issue.
There we were, gazing at a giant blowup of their Kirsten Dunst cover for Marie Antoinette, when in walked Kirsten herself (through the back door, to avoid paparazzi), looking rather low-key save for her va-va-va-voom red lipstick!

This past weekend I flew to the windy (and rainy!) city, Chicago, for work—but then, running around with Beyoncé is definitely the most fun you can have while working. I know this from experience: A few years ago, I spent several months collaborating with her on a book about Destiny's Child (though we opted for warmer climates, like L.A., Las Vegas and her hot hometown of Houston).
Jet-setting superstar that she is, Beyoncé had flown in straight from London, where she rocked Royal Albert Hall but also found time to hit Knightsbridge for a little shopping with Gwyneth Paltrow (wonder if Madonna is jealous...). The following night, she was off to L.A. for some post-production work on the Oscar-buzzed musical Dreamgirls. Let me tell you: It takes a lot of energy to keep up with Beyoncé!
Somehow, despite the jet-lag, Beyoncé gave a typically high-energy performance at Macy's Glamorama event at the Chicago Theatre, which featured a fashion show from her House of Deréon line as well as sexy looks from Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren, D&G, Just Cavalli, Moschino, Badgley Mischka, Peter Som, Tuleh and Temperley London. I was blown away by the big-budget production values—it was more Broadway than Bryant Park Tents.

From In Style's Angela Salazar and Marsha McGregor in Los Angeles: If Brent Bolthouse were ever to take over a McDonald's, it would probably turn into the hippest hot spot in town. That’s why when we heard that the nightlife guru behind Hyde, Privilege and other cool L.A. clubs was opening a place called Area on Thursday, we decided to meet up at the La Cienega locale.
Along with Sam Nazarian and Reza Roohi of SBE Restaurant Group, Bolthouse transformed the former Prey space into a lounge with what he calls “midcentury-modern” style—white and brown terrazzo floors, wood columns, low upholstered seating and glass walls.
“If I didn’t design this and help build it, I would be, like, ‘I’m so jealous,’” Bolthouse told us. “Which is always good when you come up with something you really love.”

Although the official guest list was rather low-key, we had a feeling we might see the likes of Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie—and sure enough, two of those three blond tabloid favorites were there.
Simpson (in Superfine jeans, Gucci boots and a Dolce & Gabbana top) spent much of the evening talking to celebrity stylist Jessica Paster and keeping a low profile on an outdoor banquette, while Richie arrived with current beau Brody Jenner. Not far behind them was yet another towhead: Sharon Stone, who turned a few heads in a sleek black dress.

Thank God it's October. September is always way too action-packed on my beat. First came the simultaneous craziness of Oscar Buzz Week (a.k.a. the Toronto Film Festival) and New York Fashion Week. And as for the past seven days of sleep deprivation, I've dubbed them Happening Hot-Spot Week.
Lil' Kim and Puffy
It all began with CD-release-party déjà vu at Tenjune (it seems like just yesterday that Fergie and friends were there dancing to songs from The Dutchess) when Puffy celebrated his latest album, Press Play, at the new Meatpacking District club along with two of my favorite petite divas: Lil' Kim and Nelly Furtado (but alas, not a single Pussycat Doll). I've spent some of the most fun nights of my life at Puffy parties—in the Hamptons, in Miami and, of course, in N.Y.C.—and fortunately, this one didn't enforce his typically strict dress code. Even the host sported a T-shirt! After all, who has the energy to put together a fly outfit on a Monday night?
The following evening, Janet Jackson attempted to one-up Mr. Combs with a bash sponsored by LG, Cîroc and Fiji Water to promote her 20 Y.O. CD at an even fresher venue: Room Service, on East 21st Street. (Granted, it's located in a less-happening hood, but that's actually a bonus when I'm trying to hail a cab.)

From In Style's Glynis Costin in Los Angeles: Getting an invitation that says “Jeans Required” is so great. It eliminates half the wardrobe battle. And it's comfy. Of course, the invite to the Pink Party, held to benefit Cedars-Sinai Women's Cancer Research Institute, also specified “Pink Attire.”
Try finding a pink top in the fall! And leave it to me to wait until the last minute. On Saturday afternoon, I went to the newly redone Brentwood Country Mart, strolled into the shop Holiday and saw the perfect pink blouse. But the salesgirl told me someone had just bought it to wear to some kind of pink-themed party that very night. Darn. So I went to Calypso, where I found a hot-pink wraparound top. Done. But when I got home and tried it on, well, it just didn’t work. You’ve been there, haven’t you?

As it turns out, I wasn't the only procrastinator. Cute Sarah Chalke, from Scrubs, told me that she too had run out and bought a pink top that day—which she also paired with True Religion jeans. And I couldn’t help but notice that she was sporting the dangly diamond earrings she'd won at our In Style Golden Globes party last year. “I still can’t believe I won these,” she said. “I never win anything.”
